The Project

Working with a team of consultants from across North America, Epicenter Media & Training provided consultative support to the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent (IFRC) Societies in an effort to explore and improve the technological opportunities relating to Vulnerability/Capacity Assessments (VCAs) performed across Africa, Asia-Pacific, MENA, Europe and the Americas.

A recipient of multiple Nobel Peace Prizes, IFRC is an international humanitarian aid organization that reaches an estimated 160-million people each year through more than 190 national organizations. IFRC had utilized a variety of traditional and paper-based methods for conducting VCAs during its twenty-year history with the program, but had to overcome significant limitations with regard to technology in under-developed areas.

Our Solution

The consultancy team evaluated a number of elements relating to enhancing the overall VCA process (training, archiving and centralized repository of resources/results, quality assurance, open data, crowdsourcing, prototyping, and others) and provided developmental recommendations, scientific reporting, and phased action guidance/planning to IFRC executive staff across the globe.
