The Project

The Western Region Emergency Communications Knowledge & Information Tests (WRECKIT) is a one-of-a-kind, two-day exercise that features more than 120 different agencies across Western New York. Participating organizations include those from Federal, State, County, local, not-for-profit, and corporate organizations.

The goals of the exercise are to evaluate the ability of regional partners to maintain situational awareness; activate/manage Emergency Operations Centers; and coordinate resource, mass care, and volunteer management activities following a major weather event that impacts a major portion of the state.

Our Partnership

Epicenter Media & Training is serving on the 2016 Exercise Design Team with members from New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services (State Office of Emergency Management), Department of Health, Office of Health Emergency Preparedness, Office of Fire Prevention & Control, and other partners.

CEO/Founder of Epicenter, Christopher Tarantino, is providing support as one of two Master Exercise Practitioners assigned to managing and enabling the exercise in accordance with Homeland Security Exercise/Evaluation Program (HSEEP) guidelines and other best practices. In addition to traditional exercise design support, Epicenter Media & Training plans to infuse various technological elements into the exercise to enhance its realism and provide a challenging exercise environment for players; technology-focused injects will include elements of crowd-sourced intelligence, common operating picture via social and traditional media reporting, and digital platform management.
